Strand Facilitators

David Prasse, Ph.D.; Loyola University, Chicago, IL

Diane Morrison, Ed. D; Loyola University, Chicago, IL

Who Should Attend?
National, state, and local leaders, administrators, and others who have a role/interest in higher education/teacher preparation programs and the implementation of RtI.

Description:
The important role that higher education must play in teacher preparation to implement RtI is well recognized. This strand will offer the opportunity to expand on the work accomplished since Innovations 2009.  Teacher preparation programs (K-12) need to provide content knowledge and skill development in the areas of data-based decision making, the three-tiered model of intervention, evidenced-based instruction, effective teaming, the problem-solving model, etc. This strand is designed to further this important effort.

Prerequisites:
Participants who register for this strand should have a solid understanding of RtI along with knowledge of underlying practices and beliefs.

It is recommended that teams comprised of elementary, secondary, general, and special education, deans, department chairs and faculty attend when possible.  Attending as a team will promote the development and implementation of RtI and teacher prep programs.

Learning Objectives:
The objectives for this strand are to:

  1. Promote and support the development and implementation of RtI in teacher preparation programs;
  2. Continue the efforts at the national level to support this development and implementation effort;
  3. Continue the work necessary on the Higher Education/Teacher Preparation Blueprint for Implementation.
